HISTORY
The first 1 + IN THE FAMILY collection comes out in the Autumn / Winter 2012, created by Gemma Mases – a mum of three, a vastly experienced designer and a children’s fashion enthusiast. This launch coincides with the birth of little baby Bruna, designer’s niece – a baby as desired in the family as Gemma’s embarkation on this new business venture with the designer’s own brand which she can feel fully identified with.
«The brave decision of my sister to start a family as a single mother was key to encourage me to undertake the project that I had been dreaming of for so long, and that’s why we decided to name the brand 1 + IN THE FAMILY«.
PRODUCT
We love dressing babies!
1 + IN THE FAMILY is a baby collection focused on dressing babies from 0 to 48 months. We create comfortable, stylish and versatile designs which have minimal lines and simple patterns. They are timeless clothes made to last throughout babies’ early years.
Continuos research and careful fabrics selection are two of our passions and our main sources of inspiration. The softness and the quality of our fabrics is what makes us stand out, however, the origin and the manufacturing process thereof are relevant criteria, too. All the fabrics we use are made by European suppliers, mainly Italy, Spain and France, all of which hold the OEKTEX certificate.
SUSTAINABILITY
Our persuit of continuos improvement has gradually led us to replace conventional materials and introduce new sustainable ones in order to reduce the impact of our products on the planet and human health. For that reason, in our current collections, we already offer a wide range of sustainable fabrics and accessories such us:
- Gots certified organic cotton jersey.
- Global Recycled Standard certified cotton jersey.
- Plant-based fabrics such as Lyocell and 100% linen fabrics.
- Accesories made with materials of natural origin.
- Nickel free snap buttons and zippers.
Corporate packaging, necessary to preserve the hygiene and to ensure the correct folding of the product, has also been replaced by recycled and recyclable plastic bags.
ETHICAL AND LOCAL PRODUCTION
100% of our collection is made in Barcelona, Spain. We work with local workshops located around Barcelona area, only a few kilometres away from our headquarters. Working hand in hand with local suppliers affirms our commitment to local production and guarantees better control over fair labour for all those people contributing to the manufacturing of our products.
